History Philosophy Tenets Patterns Levels

Shore's Academy of Martial Arts Inc. would like to thank Grand Master Jong Soo Park for permitting us to use of the information you will find in our "Tae Kwon-Do" section.

Taekwon-Do can be learned by everyone, young or old, male or female. Besides being one of the most effective methods of self-defense, it will give you self-confidence and physical and mental co-ordination and relaxation. It is an extremely good exercise for the whole body to keep you trim and fit. Instructors try to achieve and conduct classes to meet the needs of the student's individual goals. As the student progresses, classes of different levels of difficulty are offered to satisfy their development. However, one must realize that many goals may not be achieved overnight. Students must learn perseverance and determination. By learning and practicing Taekwon-Do, students build and create more energy in the body, developing both physically and mentally to become more satisfied with their lives. The energy and confidence that develops leads them to participate in training and life in general with more enthusiasm.

Martial arts as a whole is a highly effective method of mental and physical training. Through them one learns the nature of offense and defense - punching, kicking, foot sweeps, throwing, falling, grappling, joint locking, choking, and some weapon techniques. One purpose of training is to teach the student self-discipline.

Once this is learned, the student will use the knowledge and skills only in a life threatening situation. Taekwon-Do is a way of life, rather than a sport or pastime.

General physical well being is accomplished through daily body conditioning and breathing techniques. The knowledge gained can last a lifetime.
